Mr Hyde - Canadian Breakbeat Deejay

Well, Scream 3 was on Saturday and let's just say that things didn't quite turn out as expected. Being old and lame, I decided that I would join Jekyll and the rest of the crew at 2:30AM and sleep up until then (Good decision, I had tones of energy when I showed up at the party). From the time I arrived, things didn't seem right... The first indications were the ten police cars out front, the huge lineup outside and the fact that security wasn't allowed in the building.

For those of you that don't know, someone was stabbed at the party. It is really sad that something like this happened at a party. I remember a time when not only could you be assured that there wouldn't be violence at a party, but that you could leave you stuff in some random corner and it would be right where you left it (Un-touched) when you got back. How things have changed.

What really pissed me off were all the people outside being belligerent and confrontational with police. Someone was stabbed!! There was a good chance at that point that the person was going to die and this would likely turn into a murder investigation and all people cared about was getting into the party? Talk about a callous reaction. Watching all this unfold outside, completely sober, I was astonished at the reaction of the people outside the party. I can understand that people were (And continue to be) upset about not being able to get into the party at 3:00AM, but guess what? The party was two thirds done by 3AM; do you really think you're entitled to your money back? Especially given the fact that someone was stabbed? If an event is two thirds done and one of the CUSTOMERS creates an incident that requires you to shutdown early, who's at fault? The security team was doing the best job possible to make sure that no one arrived at the party carrying any kind of weapons, but if someone wants to create trouble, they are going to find a way to do just that.

The police have a job to do when a crime is committed and offences don’t really get anymore serious then murder and that’s how the police had to treat Scream as; a place where someone was potentially murdered. They had to maintain the integrity of the scene and make sure that the evidence was preserved and guess what that means? No party kids walking around all over the evidence they will need to analyze.

If you’re upset with having your party shutdown (And I am, I didn’t get to play a set with Jekyll that we’ve been looking forward to playing for a long time) then you should direct your anger at the parties involved with the stabbing, not the promoters, deejays or police.

Perhaps it's time to look at what our party scene has become and re-evaluate who we want at these events and start to take some ownership over the activities that take place at these events. I for one am quite saddened to see that violence is something that is now part of the rave scene in Edmonton.

Its so nice to hear someone not whine about the fact they lost money, or waited in line. Are people really that ignorant that all they care about is the party being shut down! I dont know, it really upsets me that people dont put more value on a party then they would on someones life.
Thanks for ''blogging'' in a mature, openminded way. For those of us who do know the Boodang crew know that this is not there fault understand that this is going to do something seroius to the rave scene. The same night three men were killed at Red Light Lounge, guess which clubs under that.. an afterhours club. Twilight was NO way involved in this horrible crime. Watch the news, Twilight is taking more heat for this then the Red Light Lounge, and from what ive herd, those ''club kids'' were ripping up their costumes or anything else they had to, to try save someones life. Maybe if some of the people who are complaining about waiting in line, or losing money were to be there and actually watch what happened maybe would finally clue in to the severity of the situation.

I do feel quite badly for those people that waited so long to get in and never did end up making it into the party. I am sure that Boodang will take the appropriate action to make sure that this doesn't happen in the future.
